The 7th Project Association seeks to partner with the community to provide assistance with educational opportunities, nutritional needs, economic development, and basic quality of life improvements for the people of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District.
The 7th Project Association exists for the families of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District — a region spanning the Black Belt, Birmingham, and Selma, with a history of civic and political importance and a present-day need for sustained investment in education, nutrition, and economic opportunity.
We operate as a focused, non-partisan 501(c)(3) charitable organization, governed by a Board of Directors of community leaders and funded by annual sponsorships and donor contributions. Our work fills the gap between what federal programs reach and what individual families need on the ground.
Our flagship is the Congressional Internship Program, which places young people from the district into Washington, D.C. and Alabama district-office positions — opening pathways into public service and the federal workforce.

Four pillars of investment shape every program we fund and every community partner we work with.
Scholarships, mentorship, internships, and academic enrichment for students across AL-7.
Food security partnerships, school nutrition support, and community garden initiatives.
Small business technical assistance, workforce training, and capital-access partnerships.
Direct charity, family-stabilization support, and the wraparound services that hold communities.
Internships in Congresswoman Terri Sewell’s Washington D.C. office and three Alabama district offices — Birmingham, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa. Selected non-partisan by the Board on academic performance, leadership, and demonstrated financial need.
Constituent correspondence, research, and assigned legislative tasks. Campus housing covered.
$1,600 stipend + housingProgramming and constituent service in the Birmingham, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa offices.
$1,000 stipendAny undergraduate currently enrolled in college with a 3.0 GPA or higher who is a resident of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. Direct district ties required; college may be anywhere. Computer/office skills required.

I’m proud to partner with The 7th Project to give young people the opportunity to see their government in action and serve their fellow citizens.
